The Efficient Coach

This is the first of several conversations between Marcus and Rob on topics that are a part of most coaches professional career. In this session we start when you start, from the beginning of your time at the program, and even before. What should you think about? What to focus on?

In 2017, Rob who was then the successful Head Coach of the Men’s Soccer program at Arcadia University, reached out to Marcus for guidance. They started a mentoring relationship that spanned a couple of seasons and later progressed into friendship.

Rob left Arcadia to become the Athletic Director at a High School before transitioning into his current occupation of Professional Recruiter. He has recently started his own consulting company, RCN SportSource and is a CSCS Certified and US Soccer Licensed coach who has over 15 years of experience working with athletes of all levels.

Marcus and Rob are currently working on a project to bring their experiences and knowledge from all the different areas of sports in some format to coaches. What you will hear in this episode is unscripted talk about one of the most important and overlooked aspects to coaching, Program Establishment.

We also talk in depth about the hiring process of coaches, from both sides of the table. Should you accept whatever job? Or is it more important to be picky when building your career? Other topics include vision alignment, philosophy, vision and mission.
